We were engaged by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to review and upgrade its compliance, ethics and efficiency policies to achieve zero tolerance to corruption and speedy service delivery. While painstakingly deploying our expertise in this regard, we worked with the code of ethics committee and the leadership of the Nigerian Immigration Service to carry out the project through the development of a down-to-earth code of ethics for immigration officers.
The project was executed meticulously to assist Immigration officers to understand the standard of conduct that is expected of them in the execution of their responsibilities and to build a strong integrity culture among Immigration officers so as to enhance public confidence in them. Other pillars of the project executed for the Nigerian Immigration Service include the creation of a compliance Unit to promote the compliance of Immigration officers with all relevant laws, regulations, procedure, policies and practices. To achieve this, we carried out a comprehensive comparative needs assessment report, developed a standard operating manual and trained the officers and men of the Nigerian Immigration Service on the relevant compliance framework.
We carried out corruption risk assessment with stakeholders in the Institution to create a robust Public Complaint System to further facilitate effective service delivery while instilling zero tolerance for corruption in the NIS. The Public Complaint and Communication System was designed with a view to establishing a feedback mechanism from the public on the professional conducts of the immigration officers, enlightening the public on the core mandate of the NIS, thereby boosting the image and public trust and confidence in the operations and activities of the NIS.
In furtherance of this project, we organized a stakeholders’ meeting with the officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service on June 16, 2021 at the Immigration headquarters in Abuja. The meeting was honoured by the Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede MFR, among many key officers of Immigration across the Federal Republic of Nigeria. At the meeting, the code of conduct was presented to the stakeholders, after which they were engaged actively through break-out sessions.
